CONTENT WARNING: weinig prikkels

PROPOSAL

How can we deal with stimuli in a world that is all about efficiency? With CONTENT WARNING: weinig prikkels, Speels Collectief searches for a place where even people who are sensitive to stimuli can descend and be present. Director Sanne Arbouw, who herself struggles with irritability, anxiety and panic attacks, explores with performers - ‘remote’ and ‘on stage’ - how we can move in the stimulus flow of life.

Expect a wavy, fluffy world where you can be your very gentle self: earplugs galore, eye masks within reach, blankets for everyone and hopefully a low-pressure rave.

LOVE ME BY THE HOUR

PROPOSAL

It sounds like a false fairy tale: the woman in need of rescue and the dirty male. But still that is the dominant image of sex workers and their clients in our society. Because of the taboo and limited representation around paid intimacy, there is very little room for the diverse perspectives of the people who are themselves part of the world of sex work. A world that - they know - can be captured in anything but a single image.

From quickies and pure desire to special long nights and intimate relationships. What makes the relationship between sex worker and client unique? Based on experiences of sex workers and their clients, a much broader picture of sex work unfolds in the performance LOVE ME BY THE HOUR. Beyond the cliché of the red light, we turn the spotlight on those for whom intimacy - for whatever reason - is a matter of supply and demand. With red ears, but no blush on the cheeks, this musical movement performance is an ode to the many forms of paid intimacy.

USUALLY I'M ON TOP

PROPOSAL

In a world where beauty and perfect places blur the image of reality, Speels Collectief pulls the ideal image off its pedestal. In USUALLY I'M ON TOP, prevailing norms of femininity and sexuality are questioned. Vulnerable and grotesque, in word and body, seven women take you into their experience and desires. In a search for a new woraal (or no...its absolute rejection), we arrive at ‘what she really wants’.

DE KEGELCLUB

YOU HAVE TO LET THE BALL DO THE WORK

The sudden appearance of the five players in the small opening at the end of the lane, where normally the skittles are, causes the audience to oh's! and ah's! The coming to life of the bowling alley - the balls start rolling, disco lights and music come on and the players themselves seem to turn into a bowling alley - also causes wonder.

Five strange companions end up in the bowling club. Where did they end up? A tantalising, absurd, dancey theatre performance.

ACTS

Below is an overview of our offer. Do you have a specific wish or question? Then please contact with us. We will be happy to think about the possibilities.

Three dancers, one in a wheelchair, in a dynamic dance pose.

SENSUAL DANCE TRIO

ACT

The sensual dance trio from performance USUALLY I'M ON TOP has been further developed into its own performance. The short scene from the performance questions prevailing norms of femininity and sexuality. In it, three women play with dominance, a rope and a wheelchair. In this, the wheelchair forms not only a tool, but also a sensual object.

TILLIFTDUET

ACT

The hoist duet from performance LAY DOWN AND LIFT ME UP has been further developed into its own performance. In this stimulating dance duet, two performers, one of whom uses the hoist, explore an alternative form of intimacy and question the norm around intimacy and sexuality. The hoist is used not only as a medical device, but also as a sensual object.

Dancing man and woman in a wheelchair in a hall.

TAKE ME OUT

ACT

In the mixed-abled interactive dating performance TAKE ME OUT, desires come together. Here you meet real people, not profiles or filters. While you sit, watch, listen and maybe even flirt a little, characters take you through the chaos and excitement of dating. Let's date, live on stage.

Workshops

We offer various workshops, customised if required. Our workshops are delivered by one of our staff members and one of our performers and/or concerned experts. They share their perspective on the field of performing arts, and their own experiences regarding social exclusion and validism.

Workshop Introduction to inclusive theatre/dance

1 to 1.5 hours

In this workshop, we will give an introduction to Speels Collectief. We will talk about our vision and working methods and show footage of our performances. Based on a variety of stimulating propositions, we will discuss themes such as inclusion, diversity and validism, and provide theoretical background. We often work interactively and with different forms of discussion and practical exercises.

Workshop for education (MBO and universities of applied sciences)

2 to 3 hours

In this workshop, we will give an introduction to Speels Collectief. We will talk about our vision and working methods and show footage of our performances. We will then work from the question: what is an inclusive making process? We will discuss concepts such as accessibility, inclusion, validism and diversity. Then we get to work on the floor with a short making assignment. We present it to each other and give feedback. In doing so, we will discuss the different stages of an inclusive making process:

1. Recruit. How do you recruit players? How do you select? Is your communication inclusive?

2. Rehearse. How do you set up rehearsals? How long do they last, what is the intensity, what about venue accessibility, etc. But also: how do you create material? Is there equality? To what extent do you have ownership of participants' personal stories?

3. Execute. What is a suitable location? What are the costs involved? And how do you reach your audience?

4. Evaluate. How do you evaluate with participants? And with your staff? What questions do you have for the audience, and how do you collect their experiences?

Workshop in social context (e.g. healthcare facilities)

1 to 1.5 hours

In this workshop, we will give an introduction to Speels Collectief. We will talk about our vision and working methods and show footage of our performances. Based on various stimulating propositions, we will discuss themes such as inclusion, diversity and valism, and provide theoretical background. We often work interactively and with different forms of discussion and engage in practical exercises.

We also offer workshops based on a specific theme or question. For example, we create customised scenes based on case histories or a particular dilemma.
