Crip Dossier #1 Wegstoppen en terugschoppen
Go back in time and be taken through the resistance to ableism in the 1920s, 1960s and 1970s. Using this particular history and their own experiences, performers explore how society's perception of people with disabilities has changed, or stayed the same....
Speels Collectief's Crip* Dossier actively links crip history and crip theory to the work made by Community Arnhem's production group. WEGSTOPPEN AND RETURNING is the first work in this series.
With musical support from the band Schoppen 9 and historical footage of the fundraiser for Het Dorp in Arnhem, a residential area for people with disabilities.
*The term “Crip” derives from the word “cripple” (lame), which used to be used as a swear word, especially towards people with visible disabilities. However, the term has taken on a newer meaning in recent years. The term has now been reclaimed by some from the community of people with disabilities. ‘Crip’ has thus become a statement against a society that disadvantages or even excludes bodies with deviations from the norm.
