THE CITIZENS
Female and male souls, bearers of fortune and misfortune, fertility and infertility: all come together in the landscape of a “normal” city. In THE CITIZENS, you observe a community in which figures from folklore have been welcomed: mermaids in the café and primordial spirits in the office are now part of the city. Will the city treat the mythical creatures all equally? Or will the prejudices against them persist? And what if they are actually legitimate citizens?
The Citizens brings together ritual dance and the embodiment of work and leisure. In the performance, folklore is used as a source of resistance and emancipation, and serves as the structure for an absurd, dark and playful modern dance experience.
NOTE: Booking is not necessary, you can buy a ticket on the spot for €5
Kseniia Komoza. She recently graduated from the master's Contemporary dance, theatre and dramaturgy at Utrecht University.
This is a performance by New Makers at Speels Collectief. Kseniia wanted to develop further after completing her master's degree and chose to do dance research at Speels Collectief. THE CITIZENS is the result of that.
