THIS IS NOT A FREAK SHOW
THIS IS NOT A FREAKSHOW is a radical act against objectification. A performance full of slapstick, circus and show elements. The body ‘deviating from the norm’ was once an object of sensation in old circus shows. Those days are behind us, but in what subtle ways is this view still intertwined in the way we look at people who don't look like us? Full of humour and self-mockery, Anniko Delvoije and players from Speels Collectief Community Arnhem explore how to reclaim the stage. How does the other person's gaze affect your self-image? Is self-love the medicine? Can they throw off the traces of age-old ways of thinking and make them disappear into the top hat forever?
This is the graduation performance by Anniko Delvoije (ArtEZ) with actors from Speels Collectief Community Arnhem. Final direction: Tessa Jonge Poerink.
Speels Collectief Community Arnhem:
SPEELS COLLECTIVE Speels Collectief is a diverse, mixed-abled theatre company. This performance was developed at Community Arnhem: a vibrant artistic breeding ground open to all. It works closely with ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten and the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen. Thus, we not only train actors, but also the makers, teachers and social workers of the future can develop into inclusive professionals here.
This is the graduation performance by Anniko Delvoije. Final direction by Tessa Jonge Poerink. Supervision is by Kir Robben, artistic coordinator of Community Arnhem.
