NIET OM OP TE ZITTEN

In NIET OM OP TE ZITTEN, Production Group Community Tilburg explores the ways in which the players can be in touch with themselves, with each other, with the space, and especially: with the chairs in that space. Through dance improvisation, intimate duets, lonely waltzes and sensual tangos have been created.

In this performance, the chairs, which stood for years in the chapel at the Landpark, then years in Den Herd and now in the sports hall, are given a special role. For decades, the chairs have been used to sit on, to watch. Now they are given an active role, connecting the players with each other and with the audience. They are the bridge between the game floor and the stands, where players and spectators meet. And yes, the chairs also sensually dance the tango.

Within Speels Collectief's talent development maker programme, young makers create an artistic work. Third- and fourth-year art school students work with a diverse group of performers on their own performance or theatrical research. This gives them the opportunity to develop their maker skills and grow into inclusive theatre or dance makers. They are artistically guided by Merel van Lieshout and dance teacher Ella de Coninck.
